AACR Annual Meeting 2026 San Diego: Best Food Near the Convention Center | Tacotarian

24,000 of the world's leading cancer researchers are coming to San Diego for AACR 2026. These are people who spend their days thinking harder than most of us ever will — about cells, proteins, clinical trials, and the kind of science that changes lives.

After a day like that, you deserve a meal that actually does something for you. Something fresh, bold, and made with ingredients you can feel good about.

That's Tacotarian. And we're just a short trip from the San Diego Convention Center.

Hi, We're Tacotarian

We're the largest 100% plant-based Mexican restaurant chain in the United States — and before your scientist brain starts forming objections, hear us out.

This is not a salad situation. This is not a grain bowl with a squeeze of lime masquerading as Mexican food. This is jackfruit birria with a smoky consommé dipping broth. This is house-made seitan al pastor marinated in achiote and pineapple. This is the kind of food that makes you forget you were tired five minutes ago.

We started in Las Vegas, opened in San Diego because this city has the taste for it, and we're growing because people keep eating here and then telling everyone they know. Fast Casual put us on their Top 100 Movers and Shakers list. Nation's Restaurant News gave us a national spotlight. And 75% of our customers don't identify as vegan or vegetarian.

They identify as people who found their new favorite taco spot. Welcome.

Getting Here from the SDCC

We're in North Park — one of San Diego's best food neighborhoods and an easy escape from the convention center waterfront.

Tacotarian San Diego 4332 30th St, San Diego, CA 92104 📞 619-432-1815 Open Daily 11am–9pm

Getting there:

  • Rideshare: 10–15 minutes door to door. Easiest option after a long day of sessions.
  • By car: North on Park Blvd, left on University Ave, right on 30th St. Street parking available.
  • By bike: About 15 minutes up Park Blvd. San Diego's bike lanes make it genuinely pleasant.

North Park is worth a wander after dinner. Good coffee, good bookstores, good vibes. Think of it as a decompression zone from the convention floor.

What to Order

You've been staring at data all day. Your brain is working overtime. Here's what it deserves.

Jackfruit Birria Tacos Start here. Always start here. Jackfruit braised low and slow in a deep, smoky consommé — served with the dipping broth on the side. Dip the taco. Take a bite. This is the dish that ends up in the group chat after dinner.

Seitan Al Pastor House-made seitan marinated in achiote and pineapple. Warm, slightly sweet, deeply savory. The dish that quietly converts the most skeptical person at the table. Order two — you'll want the second before you finish the first.

Jackfruit Barbacoa Slow-braised, rich, full of depth that only comes from doing things properly. The kind of taco that earns the trip back on day three of the conference.

Cauliflower Ceviche Chopped cauliflower soaked in lime juice, topped with pico, cucumber, and avocado. The perfect way to start while you're still deciding what else to order. Spoiler: you're ordering everything.

Takis Elote Street corn with chili-lime mayo, queso fresco, cilantro, and crushed Takis. Chaotic. Delicious. Non-negotiable.

Aguas Frescas Horchata and pineapple. Clean, refreshing, and genuinely the right call after a day of conference coffee.

Feeding Your Research Team? We've Got You.

AACR brings teams — lab groups, department crews, collaborative research partners who've been emailing for months and are finally in the same city. If you need to feed a group, Tacotarian catering is the move that makes everyone happy and nobody has to negotiate over a menu.

Plant-based Mexican means every dietary need in the room is covered automatically. No special plates, no awkward conversations, no one quietly eating the bread basket. One taco bar, everyone sorted.

What we offer:

  • Taco Boxes — 24 pre-made tacos, up to four proteins. Fast and easy for team lunches between sessions.
  • Taco Bar — Buffet-style, build-your-own. Two, three, or four protein options. The format that turns a group dinner into a genuinely good time.
  • Sides — Cauliflower ceviche, Takis elote, enchiladas, guacamole, chips and salsa, mini burritos.
  • Dessert — Churros.
  • Drinks — Aguas frescas in horchata and pineapple.

Minimum 10 people, 24 hours notice for standard orders.

A Note Worth Making

You're at a cancer research conference. You know better than anyone the growing body of evidence connecting diet, inflammation, and long-term health outcomes. You don't need us to lecture you on nutrition.

But we will say this: eating plant-based for a week while you're in San Diego is a pretty easy choice. And Tacotarian makes it the most delicious easy choice you'll make all conference.
