Eating Near the San Diego Convention Center | Tacotarian Plant-Based Guide

Eating Near the San Diego Convention Center | Tacotarian Plant-Based Guide

You made it to San Diego. The weather is perfect — it's always perfect — the convention center is buzzing, your badge is around your neck, and you have exactly 45 minutes before your next session starts.

This is not the time for a sad hotel sandwich.

This is taco time. Specifically, jackfruit birria taco time. And we're going to make sure you know exactly where to go.

Allow Us to Introduce Ourselves

Tacotarian is the largest 100% plant-based Mexican restaurant chain in the United States — and yes, we know how that sounds. Bear with us for one second.

This is not a smoothie bowl situation. This is not a sad grain bowl with a squeeze of lime calling itself Mexican food. This is birria. This is al pastor. This is house-made seitan slow-cooked with achiote and pineapple until it does things that will genuinely confuse you about why you ever needed meat in the first place.

We started in Las Vegas, we're now in San Diego, and we're franchising because people keep telling us they need one of these in their city. Fast Casual put us on their Top 100 Movers and Shakers list alongside Chipotle and Sweetgreen. Nation's Restaurant News gave us one of their five coveted national spots. And 75% of our customers don't even identify as vegan or vegetarian.

They just identify as people who love tacos. Welcome to the club.

Getting Here from the Convention Center

Our San Diego home is in North Park — one of the best food neighborhoods in the entire city, and a quick rideshare from the SDCC waterfront.

Tacotarian San Diego 4332 30th St, San Diego, CA 92104 📞 619-432-1815 Open Daily 11am–9pm

Getting there:

  • Rideshare: 10–15 minutes door to door. Easiest option.
  • By car: North on Park Blvd, left on University Ave, right on 30th St. Free Parking behind our storefront.
  • By bike: About 15 minutes up Park Blvd if you're the type. San Diego's bike lanes make it genuinely pleasant.

Bonus: North Park is a neighborhood worth exploring. Once you've eaten your weight in birria, wander around. You'll thank us.

What to Order (Aka the Important Part)

Here's the move. Don't overthink it.

Jackfruit Birria Tacos Start here. Always start here. Jackfruit braised in a deep, smoky consommé, served with the dipping broth on the side. Dip the taco. Take a bite. Try not to make a sound. Good luck with that last part.

Seitan Al Pastor House-made seitan marinated in achiote and pineapple. This is the taco that has converted more self-described carnivores than we can count. It's warm, slightly sweet, deeply savory, and genuinely addictive. Order two.

Jackfruit Barbacoa Slow-braised, rich, full of flavor. The kind of taco you think about on the flight home and start planning your next San Diego trip around.

Cauliflower Ceviche Don't skip this. Chopped cauliflower soaked in lime juice, topped with pico, cucumber, and avocado, served with chips. It sounds simple. It is not simple. It's excellent.

Takis Elote Street corn with chili-lime mayo, queso fresco, cilantro, and crushed Takis. Chaotic. Delicious. Non-negotiable.

Aguas Frescas Horchata and pineapple. Order one. Then probably order another.

Rainbow Margarita Flight- 4 different flavors, one incredible experience.

Feeding Your Whole Convention Crew? We Do That Too.

Look — sometimes you don't have time to take 40 people to a restaurant. Sometimes the event doesn't stop, the hospitality suite needs food NOW, and you need something that works for the vegan, the gluten-sensitive person, the flexitarian, and the guy who swears he only eats meat but will absolutely eat three of our al pastor tacos if you put them in front of him.

That's what Tacotarian catering is built for.

The Taco Box 24 pre-made tacos, up to four proteins, ready to go. Fast, easy, and the kind of lunch that makes your team actually excited to come back from break.

The Taco Bar Buffet-style, build-your-own, everyone gets exactly what they want. Two, three, or four protein options. The setup that turns a work lunch into an actual vibe. People linger. People talk. The food is that good.

The Full Spread Add sides like cauliflower ceviche, Takis elote, enchiladas, and guacamole. Close it out with churros. Add aguas frescas. Make it an event.

We cater for convention teams, corporate groups, brand activations, hospitality suites, weddings, and honestly any situation where good food is required. Minimum 10 people, 24 hours notice for standard orders.

Every Convention Crowd, Covered

Here's the thing about the San Diego Convention Center — it hosts everyone. And Tacotarian works for all of them.

Healthcare and medical conferences — Clean food, real ingredients, nothing heavy. Plant-based catering at a health conference isn't a stretch, it's the obvious call. Your attendees will notice.

Tech and data conferences — This crowd has opinions about food. They've had the bad catering, they know the difference, and a plant-based taco bar is going to be the thing they mention in the recap Slack channel.

Comic-Con and fan conventions — An inclusive menu for an inclusive community. Nobody gets left out of the taco bar. That's kind of the whole point.

Corporate retreats and incentive trips — The food is part of the experience. Make it memorable. Tacotarian catering is the kind of detail people bring up when they get home.

Wellness and fitness events — Plant-based, fresh, high-protein. This one writes itself.
